We have come to our senses!

Today, we discussed our 5 senses. We started out reading this book.

Each child was given a partner for what I like to call "stations".

Station 1:

Station 2:

Station 3:

Station 4:

Station 5:

We took a vote and most of them said tasting was their favorite.

What we've been cooking up so far.

Every Friday, we have what we like to call "our cooking day". Right before lunch we cook/mix/assemble an edible item to help us remember something we learned from the week. Here are few of the things we have fixed.

I for igloos

A is for ants on a log

N is for nest

For some reason(probably because I was having too much fun), I did not get pictures of the T for painted toast and H for frozen hot chocolate. These were definitely the favorites so far.

I was asked by a couple of children in the class for the recipe for the frozen hot chocolate. My family makes these all the time in the summer. They are so easy and very delicious!

Frozen Hot Chocolate

1 c milk (we use skim)
2 1/2 to 3 packets of hot chocolate
1 tsp vanilla
crushed ice
chocolate syrup
cool whip
In a blender, combine the milk, packets and vanilla. Mix until blended an then add ice( I use a regular size cup and fill it twice with crushed ice). Blend the ice until it is a smooth consistency.

Here is how we like to assemble it:

Drizzle a little of the chocolate syrup in the bottom of a cup. Next, fill with the cold hot chocolate. Add a scoop of cool whip on top and drizzle more syrup on top.

Your child received a mini version of this.

Grandparent's breakfast

Last Friday, We invited all of our grandparents to join their grandchild for a special breakfast. We had several attend from the K3, K4 and K5 classes.

Here are a few our grandparents.

We also had Amiya and her grandmother attend but due to my poor planning my camera battery died. I was unable to get a picture of them. BOOHOO!

I know we had several who were not able to be there. We missed you!

Thank you to Amiya and Justin's grandmothers for reading to our class!

Community Helper Day

We have been talking about community helpers over the last month in Social Studies. We were more than thrilled to have several community helpers visit our school last Thursday for Community Helper Day.

We had Chief  Ellison with the Macon Fire Department bring one of his trucks. He spoke to us a little about fire safety.

We also had Mrs. Webb with the postal service bring her mail truck.

Our very own Mrs. Keith talked to us about nursing. She used flour to demonstrate how germs can spread.

Mr. Brewster from the police department  brought his D.A.R.E. car along with McGruff the crime fighting dog. The t-shirts your child came home with were given by Mr. Brewster.

Surprisingly, we met a few more community helpers!

We had some doctors.

Our teachers greeted us that morning( all of these girls must take after their mothers).

Just in case animals ever get in our school, we have veterinarians on call.
Just in case we get hungry we have some bakers we can visit.

It was a great of hands on learning.

Thank you to all our community helpers who came to our school!

How we celebrated bear day!

For the next several months, we will be going over 2 letters per week along with their blends. As we continue to become very familiar with the blends, we will start adding letters on the end to make words.

The letter we introduced so far this week was the letter Bb along with ba, be, bi, bo, and bu. Today was bear day so each child was asked to bring his/her favorite bear.

Here is what we did with our bears today.

We discussed the words beside, behind, under, in and on. The class had to use their bear to show each one. By the looks of it, I think they understood the words.

Next, we went on a bear hunt with our bears.

Our bears danced as we listened to The Three Bears Rap.

We discussed what bears do in the winter time. We learned about the big word hibernating. To help us remember, we made these....

Lastly, we made the b page for our book.

We had a great time with our bears today.

We even saw our bears forming friendships just like us!
